US-based Adcole has installed a new overhead crane at its facility, which is now undergoing stress testing.

The investment aims to improve the handling of precision gauges during manufacturing, with the equipment intended to make operations safer and more efficient.

The newly installed crane is equipped to lift significant weights, including large gauges such as the company’s 1200-HC 130 model, which was referenced as an example of the crane’s capacity.

Adcole stated the upgrade is designed to help streamline its manufacturing processes, support potential future growth, and strengthen its delivery of quality and reliability for customers.

The company manufactures a range of automated metrology solutions for industrial applications, including precision gauges that measure small parts as well as large shafts over 4.5m in length.

The company said: “Our new overhead crane is now installed and undergoing stress testing.

“Designed to improve the safe and efficient handling of our precision gauges, this upgrade helps streamline manufacturing operations, support future growth, and enhance our ability to deliver the quality, reliability, and responsiveness our customers expect.”

With over 50 years in industrial metrology, Adcole develops products for industries requiring geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) measurement. Its range supports various applications where precise measurement is necessary.

Established in 1957 by Addison D. Cole, the business was originally focused on aerospace technology.

Early developments included sun-angle sensors for spacecraft and satellite orientation.

Later, a meeting with an automotive engineer led to the adaptation of Adcole’s calibration technology for use in precision metrology for engine components.

According to the company’s history, this development resulted in the creation of automated shaft metrology systems, a segment where Adcole reports ongoing activity.
