Collective Intelligence Group (CIG) has completed the first installation of its telematics system on an XQ360 overhead crane at Kloeckner Metals in the US.

The project marks the initial deployment of CIG’s technology on this type of industrial equipment, expanding its use beyond traditional vehicles such as forklifts or reach trucks.

Kloeckner Metals, a major metal manufacturing and distribution company with over 55 locations in North America, integrated CIG’s telematics solution to strengthen its operational monitoring and safety management.

The installation required significant modification of standard telematics hardware and software to address the complexities specific to overhead cranes.

Overhead cranes present different technical challenges compared to mobile equipment, operating in three-dimensional space and requiring specialised tracking and mounting solutions for harsh industrial conditions.

CIG’s XQ360 system demonstrated adaptability during this deployment, reflecting the company’s approach towards supporting a broad range of industrial machinery irrespective of brand, age or environment.

The modular design of CIG’s telematics products allowed for integration with the crane while maintaining consistent operational features and data tracking capabilities.

In addition to overhead cranes, Collective Intelligence Group has installed its solutions on various industrial assets, including scissor lifts, boom lifts, yard trucks and equipment from leading manufacturers such as Toyota, Hyster, Linde and Caterpillar.

This breadth illustrates the flexibility of CIG’s technology across diverse fleets and complex operating environments.

Collective Intelligence Group said: “We’re excited to share a groundbreaking milestone: Collective Intelligence Group’s first XQ360 installation on an overhead crane at Kloeckner Metals – Americas!”

Kloeckner Metals adopted the new telematics capability as part of its wider focus on improving both safety protocols and operational efficiency throughout its facilities.

The collaboration aligns with Kloeckner’s commitment to adopting technologies that optimise its distribution and processing functions.

The success of the XQ360 installation at Kloeckner Metals signals broader opportunities for extending telematics coverage to non-traditional industrial equipment, supporting uniform fleet management practices regardless of asset type.
