Coilex has increased the efficiency of its loading and unloading operations by adding new overhead cranes at its Varennes, Quebec facility.

The investment coincided with an expansion and loading area redesign in 2025, allowing the company to handle an average of 150 trucks per week.

Coilex reports that the additional crane capacity has improved throughput, reduced handling time across loading bays, and enabled safer, more controlled lifting movements. The company also noted increased operational reliability through improved coordination between planning and traffic management.

The changes form part of a broader strategy to optimise logistics at the steel sheet manufacturer, which operates a 100,000ft2 facility with nine overhead cranes and an integrated information system powered by scanning technology. Coilex reports that the combination of optimised loading areas, new crane investments, and on-floor team performance has resulted in concrete, measurable outcomes.

Founded in 1995, Coilex employs between 11 and 50 staff members and focuses on producing laser-quality steel sheets with cut-to-length and precision levelling services. The company maintains in-house inventory traceability and uses camera surveillance to monitor operations.
