G.W. Becker has installed a 0.25t column-mounted jib crane with an electric chain hoist for a client’s manufacturing facility in Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
The company handled the design, fabrication, and installation of the system to improve material handling and maintenance tasks within the plant.
The installation included a purpose-built support bracket, engineered to address specific conditions in the existing building and to ensure secure load transfer into a structural column.
Work under the project comprised the crane and bracket assembly and mounting to an existing column.
It also covered all mechanical and electrical connections, as well as commissioning and certified load testing.
The company completed these tasks in line with relevant Crane Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA), American National Standards Institute the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ANSI/ASME), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards for safety and compliance.
G.W. Becker partnered with Gorbel for the installation project.
The company said: “Recently, we ended up installing a 1/4t column-mounted jib crane, along with a custom support bracket our team engineered in-house. We took care of everything from delivery and installation to wiring, start-up, and certified load testing.
“It’s always cool seeing how even a small crane can make a big difference in someone’s day-to-day operations. This one turned out clean, smooth, and ready to work. Great job by the whole crew.”
Technical details for the crane specify a 14ft length and a 13ft lift.
The crane features a two-button pendant control with a 9ft drop, upper and lower hoist limit switches for protection, rotation stops, and a tagline and rotation control system.
The electric chain hoist was selected to match operational requirements.
Following installation, workers commissioned the jib crane system and conducted full load tests to certify it for daily use in production operations, said the company.
Last month, G.W. Becker installed two top-running single girder cranes, each with a 15t capacity at a manufacturing facility in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.
