The Caldwell Group has supplied a 7.5t capacity low-headroom multiple spread lifting beam to JEC Service Company for handling steel coils at its sheet metal fabrication facility.

The beam operates as part of an integrated lifting system from Mass Crane & Hoist Services, working with a top-running double-girder crane to load coils into a Vicon coil processing line.

The Model 20S beam, which measures 77in and incorporates a custom single-pin bail, lifts 60in sheet metal coils that feed into the Vicon equipment.

Each coil cradle weighs about 10,000lb, so the crane system must deliver consistent performance as production volumes change.

The limited headroom in the plant required a lifting solution that could operate within the available vertical space while maintaining controlled coil handling.

Caldwell worked with Mass Crane to adapt the standard connection on the lifting beam. Instead of a typical lifting eye, the team specified a single-pin bail to gain additional headroom under the double-girder crane.

JEC uses the system to position coils for a semi-automatic Vicon coil line that de-coils, punches, notches, shears and roll-forms sheet metal into ductwork for the HVACR sector.

Each lift must consider both the weight of the material and the attached equipment, placing specific demands on beam capacity and reliable operation.

The Model 20/Model 20H product family, including the 20S, offers about 150 sizes and a range of configurations.

Users can select options for hole locations, faspins, additional hooks, bail types and shackles, resulting in many possible combinations based on a standard beam design rather than a one-off product.

The Model 20 line covers more than 90 sizes, with capacities up to 40t and spreads up to 30ft.

The Model 20H follows the same basic design for higher-capacity applications, offering more than 75 standard sizes and options, such as additional shackles, swivel hooks, and a built-in stand.

For higher capacities, the Model 20HC range is available in 50t to 80t capacities with spreads from 10ft to 20ft.

Caldwell also supplies fully custom-engineered below-the-hook equipment where standard configurations do not meet specific lifting requirements.

The Caldwell Group manufactures below-the-hook lifting devices for use with cranes and hoists.

The company supplied the JEC beam as part of its ongoing work with Mass Crane & Hoist Services, on integrated material handling systems.
