Xtek has announced its plans to install a new eight-metre cylindrical grinder, the Omicron 8000 from Italy-based Robbi Group, in early 2026.
The advanced machinery will replace Xtek’s current manual Cincinnati grinder, marking a significant upgrade in their manufacturing capabilities.
The Omicron 8000 is designed for high-precision, large-scale grinding applications, enhancing Xtek’s ability to handle larger parts such as pinch rolls and mill pinions.
It features semi-automatic PLC controls, utilising a Siemens Programmable Logic Controller system, and enables intuitive control and efficient management of grinding processes.
The machine’s multi-diameter grinding capability allows operators to programme it for multiple diameters in a single setup, streamlining operations and reducing setup times.
Omicron 8000 also offers automatic grinding cycles, including plunge and pass modes.
Operators can set specific parameters for each cycle, ensuring optimal material removal rates and tailored surface finishes.
The machine’s robust weight capacity of up to 44,000 lbs makes it suitable for heavy-duty applications, maintaining accuracy and performance with large workpieces.
The Omicron 8000 boasts generous grinding dimensions with a maximum grinding length of 8,000 mm and a centre height of up to 500 mm.
It can also be equipped with automatic measurement devices for processing complex components with high precision.
Xtek said that its investment in the Omicron 8000 supports its goal of improving resources and capabilities to better serve customers.
Xtek, in a LinkedIn post, said: “We’re proud to announce the acquisition of Omicron 8000, a strategic move that strengthens our capabilities in advanced component manufacturing and extends our reach in key industrial markets.
“This exciting development reflects our continued commitment to innovation, quality, and serving our customers with industry-leading solutions.”
