US-based Engineered Systems Incorporated (ESI) has completed the installation of a custom 15t Columbus McKinnon underhung crane with a Yale hoist to support material-handling operations at an undisclosed client’s facility.

The crane was designed to meet specific headroom and wheel requirements, addressing the site’s unique needs.

Columbus McKinnon underhung cranes, also referred to as under-running or underslung cranes, are mounted directly to the underside of a building’s roof structure.

This configuration is intended to maximise available floor space, optimise wheel movement, and provide a lifting solution suitable for spaces with low headroom.

Columbus McKinnon said: “We love seeing our equipment in action and the creative ways customers put it to work.”

ESI supplies overhead crane and hoist systems, along with parts and related services, from ten locations in the Southeast.

The company’s offerings include maintenance, inspection and modernisation services, with solutions tailored to operational needs.

Its engineering teams use specialised tools to enhance system performance and adhere to regulatory requirements.

Fabrication is carried out by certified welders to industry standards. The company serves clients across a range of industries and provides equipment to customers worldwide.

Recently, ESI installed a 3t Columbus McKinnon underhung single-girder crane equipped with a Shaw-Box hoist for a client. The new system is being used to assist maintenance and servicing activities by enabling the safe handling of batteries, equipment, and other heavy components.

In March 2026, ESI installed a 97ft overhead bridge crane system at a client’s new facility. The project involved the integration of Spanco overhead bridge cranes and two Street Crane electric chain hoists.

The system was designed to optimise material handling coverage while preserving the original building structure.
