SafeLift Crane Aid has completed the installation and commissioning of a Demag DC-Com chain hoist in an underground tyre change bay at a Saskatchewan potash mine.
The new equipment replaces an older Kito hoist that had reached the end of its operational life.
The company said the newly installed DC-Com hoist will support ongoing maintenance of large mining equipment by helping with underground tyre changes.
The replacement comes as part of routine upgrades to ensure safe and reliable lifting operations within the mining sector.
SafeLift Crane Aid operations manager Bradley Sliedrecht said: “This DC-Com will now spend its working life in the underground tyre change bay, helping keep some very large equipment moving.
“Out with the old, in with the new — installed, commissioned, and ready for service.”
The Demag DC-Com chain hoist is designed for applications with standard operational requirements.
The DC-Com model features simple commissioning, ergonomic handling, ease of servicing, FEM classification 1A and 2m, a 24V contactor control, and two standard hoist speeds.
SafeLift Crane Aid offers a range of services focused on the mining industry, including commissioning, inspection, load testing, servicing, and repairing of lifting equipment.
The company’s activities also cover preventive and corrective maintenance, periodic inspections, troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical crane systems, and safety upgrades.
SafeLift Crane Aid also serves as an authorised distributor for R&M and supplies lifting equipment across Western Canada.
The installation of the DC-Com hoist forms part of broader efforts by mining service providers to maintain safe and effective lifting equipment for critical underground operations.
Last month, SafeLift Crane Aid installed and commissioned a Demag DVR wire rope hoist at a potash mine in Saskatchewan, replacing a Condra hoist.
The project involved removing the previous unit, installing new mechanical and electrical components, and integrating the new hoist into the mine’s existing crane system.
