Basic Metals has partnered with CareGo, a provider of industrial automation software and control systems, to implement a TELIA-managed environment at its new manufacturing facility in Germantown, Wisconsin.

The agreement forms part of Basic Metals’ expansion of its headquarters, which will add a 42,000ft² site to the company’s operations.

The facility aims to address increasing demand from customers for aluminium, stainless steel, and carbon steel.

The TELIA system, a patented solution from CareGo, is designed to automate and optimise the movement, storage, and staging of heavy industry materials.

CareGo states that the system enables 24/7 autonomous operation, aiming to increase storage capacity, boost throughput, and reduce risk in safety-critical areas.

CareGo said integration will be tailored for Basic Metals, with the technology working alongside existing infrastructure and configured to meet requirements specific to the new facility.

Superior Cranes will supply equipment for the Germantown site as part of the project’s implementation.

Basic Metals president Andy Fogel said: “As Basic Metals continues to grow, we are making strategic investments in automation and technology that will allow us to scale smarter, operate more efficiently, and better support our customers long term.

“The integration of CareGo’s TELIA system into our new Germantown expansion aligns with our vision of building one of the most advanced and operationally efficient service centre campuses in North America.

“This technology will help us maximise our warehouse footprint, improve material flow, enhance workplace safety, and create a more efficient operation for both our employees and customers. This investment is about creating a stronger foundation for the future growth of our business.”

CareGo chief commercial officer Kurt Fowler said: “Basic Metals represents exactly the kind of partner we want to grow with. They’re a high-performing, operationally focused service centre that is investing in its future.

“Their commitment to operational excellence is evident and we’re proud to be part of this expansion from day one. We look forward to a strong, long-term relationship as we help Basic Metals scale.”

Basic Metals is an independent supplier in the metals service sector. The new facility marks a continued period of growth for the company, which is investing in advanced automation as part of its operational strategy.
