US-headquartered Uesco Industries has installed a 20t double-girder overhead crane at an underground site.

The project faced restricted clearances and rock walls, requiring specialised equipment such as a spider lift for positioning the crane beneath the surface.

The crane has been built specifically to operate in harsh mining environments.

Uesco Industries said the installation was carried out safely and adhered to the project schedule.

Uesco Cranes Midwest regional sales manager Chris Marras said: “Proud of our install crew for pulling this one off safely. Underground or aboveground, the crane goes in right.”

Uesco Industries, headquartered in Alsip, Illinois, has been designing and manufacturing made-to-order overhead bridge cranes and runway systems since 1921.

The family-owned business carries out in-house engineering and production for a range of equipment, including single- and double-girder overhead cranes, under-running cranes, dual-motor gantry cranes and custom runway systems.

In addition to manufacturing, the company serves as a distributor for various brands within the material handling sector.

Its service offering covers installation, regular inspections, and maintenance through a network of distributors and service technicians across the US.

The company’s latest underground installation highlights its ability to manage projects in demanding physical environments, leveraging its internal engineering resources and field crews to deliver products suitable for mining and similar sectors.

In August 2026, Uesco Industries began work on installing a 600ft-long, 10t moment column runway system designed to accommodate two top-running double-girder cranes. The cranes featured low headroom hoists as part of the design.

According to the company, the project incorporated steel structures that are engineered for use in demanding manufacturing environments, where requirements for hook height, strength, and reliability are essential considerations.
