Canada-based wire rope and rigging products company Unirope has expanded its product line by adding Helix and Onyx synthetic roundslings from Slingmax Rigging Solutions.
The Helix and Onyx roundslings, crafted from high-performance fibres, serve distinct market needs and enhance Unirope’s comprehensive rigging catalogue.
The products are customised to meet the specific needs of Unirope’s customers, ensuring safety and performance for both recurring operations and specialised lifting applications.
Helix is a premier product featuring a blended K-Spec core yarn, similar to Twin-Path slings.
Its braided high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) jacket provides excellent protection while maintaining a low profile, eliminating the need for tapering in tight spaces.
Helix also incorporates patented Rifled Cover Technology, enhancing strength-to-weight ratio and load-sharing efficiency.
The Onyx sling, on the other hand, offers a more economical option with a 100% HMPE core fibre and dual protective cover.
While it lacks the patented features of Helix and Twin-Path, Onyx meets Slingmax’s quality and industry standards, appealing to a different market demographic.
Unirope president Justin Brown said: “Expanding our rigging equipment portfolio allows us to address critical gaps and emerging needs within the industry. It ensures that we’re responsive to the evolving requirements of our customers, helping them solve real challenges in their operations.
“This collaboration has been a driving force behind our mutual success. Slingmax has been a leader in product development, led by a talented team of engineers dedicated to advancing rigging and lifting technology.
“This partnership has not only strengthened both brands but has also ensured our customers have access to the most reliable, cutting-edge solutions in the field.”
In addition to Helix and Onyx, Unirope will also offer Slingmax’s Spider Sleeve and Covermax products.
Spider Sleeve, a light-duty HMPE product, guards against abrasion, while Covermax, a bulked nylon material, provides durable and UV-resistant protection.
The Covermax cover, with a red inner layer for inspection, can be repaired if the core fibres remain undamaged.
The product line also includes Cornermax, a densely woven HMPE offering cut protection, rated for 25,000 lbs. per inch of sling width.
Both Spider Sleeve and Cornermax are compatible with any Slingmax synthetic sling product, further broadening the range of solutions available to Unirope’s customers.
Slingmax Rigging Solutions vice president John Ketchum said: “We believe K-Spec is the most tested and trusted core fibre on the market. K-Spec goes through rigorous testing on a regular basis and has been successfully tested to 50,000 cycles at 1.5 times rated load.
“Quality control is a multi-step process that involves testing individual incoming fibres, twisted core yarn, and performance in completed slings.
“Our K-Spec core yarn is blended to take advantage of the different fibre properties while reducing creep, which is defined as unrecoverable stretch.”
