SafeLift Crane Aid, a division of Venter Cranes, has completed the installation and commissioning of a Demag DVR wire rope hoist at a potash mine in Saskatchewan, replacing an existing Condra hoist.
The project involved removing the former equipment, carrying out the necessary mechanical and electrical installation work, and integrating the new hoist with the mine’s current crane system.
The company announced that the crane has been tested through its operating functions, officially commissioned, and is now back in service underground.
SafeLift Crane Aid operations manager Bradley Sliedrecht said: “For us, commissioning is where the installation becomes a working solution.
“The new hoist has been integrated with the existing crane, tested through its operating functions, and handed back ready to do what it was designed to do—move loads reliably in a demanding mining environment.”
According to the company, equipment selection is a critical factor due to the need for long-term maintenance and support once projects move past the installation phase.
The new Demag DVR hoist, supplied by Demag USA / Canada and R&M Materials Handling, is supported by parts availability, technical assistance, and service options in Saskatchewan.
Sliedrecht said: “Installing a hoist is only the beginning. Our customers need equipment that can be maintained and supported for years after the installation is complete.”
SafeLift Crane Aid managed all aspects of the upgrade, from removing the previous hoist to completing both the installation and system commissioning.
The company offers services covering commissioning, inspection, load testing, servicing, and repair of lifting equipment for clients in the mining sector.
Its portfolio also includes routine and periodic inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting for both mechanical and electrical crane systems.
In addition to installation and maintenance, SafeLift Crane Aid provides safety upgrades, equipment modernisation, retrofit solutions, brake inspections and adjustments, and technical support.
The firm acts as an authorised distributor for R&M and supplies lifting equipment across Western Canada.
Last month, SafeLift Crane Aid finished manufacturing and commissioning a customised 10t underslung mining crane system from R&M Materials Handling for use at a mining facility.
