Big G Steel has installed two 20t overhead cranes and a 2t crane at the CLAAS Research and Development (R&D) Centre, currently under construction in Omaha, Nebraska.
The equipment is intended to facilitate the movement of heavy machinery and parts throughout the new facility, which is scheduled to open in late 2026.
Work at the site, located at the southwest corner of the existing Sarpy County property near 132nd and Giles Road, follows the official groundbreaking in August 2025.
The new centre will encompass 44,800ft², making it over 25% larger than the temporary off-site location currently used for R&D activities.
Once operational, the facility will serve as the hub for all CLAAS testing and analysis work in North America, supporting the development of harvesting and agricultural technologies for US and Canadian markets.
CLAAS Group, headquartered in Germany, has operated its North American headquarters and manufacturing facilities from Omaha since 2001.
The campus houses a 162,000ft² assembly plant for LEXION combines, as well as the recently established CLAAS Training Academy, and currently employs more than 250 people. More than 10,000 combines have been produced at the Omaha plant since it opened.
The upcoming R&D centre is expected to offer expanded office and workshop spaces, enhanced logistics areas, advanced instrumentation zones, and improved security measures to protect intellectual property.
Big G Steel said: “Our crews completed a great install for our valued partners.”
