US-based Laser-View Technologies has implemented a semi-automated Crane Sentry control system at a plastic film manufacturing facility to assist with moving mandrels between production machines and storage racks.
The deployment required 2mm positioning accuracy at 16 designated locations, as well as dynamic no-fly zones to safeguard personnel and equipment.
The control system also coordinates real-time communication between the crane and the plant’s machinery.
This installation forms part of the factory’s regular operations. As the site adds new manufacturing equipment, Laser-View Technologies has been requested to expand the system to include more target positions to match the facility’s increased production capacity.
The use of semi-automated crane control is aimed at addressing specific safety, precision, and productivity challenges that arise in high-volume manufacturing settings.
The company’s Crane Sentry product line is designed to manage crane collision detection, zone control, and positioning.
The systems are manufactured in the US and use laser distance sensors to achieve their functionality.
Crane Sentry applications include detecting potential collisions between cranes or between a crane and a wall, defining restricted zones, and providing accurate positioning for crane movements.
The equipment supports up to six programmable relay outputs for functions such as slowing the crane or bringing it to a stop.
Additional features include alerting workers and machine operators when cranes enter designated areas, and using multiple relay outputs to interface with bridge and trolley controls.
Laser-View Technologies, established in 1999, supplies non-contact measurement sensors and systems for a range of industrial applications.
The company indicates its engineering expertise is central to supporting original equipment manufacturers, machine builders, and end users.
In September 2026, Laser-View Technologies fitted its Crane Sentry system to track the position of a jib crane working near both a gantry crane and an overhead crane.
